Luca Williams-Barnett strengthened his case for further Tottenham opportunities with an outstanding second-half display against MK Dons. The academy midfielder created three chances during only 45 minutes as Spurs secured a 1-0 pre-season victory.
Williams-Barnett completed 20 of his 22 passes and delivered five into the final third. He also completed two dribbles, won three ground duels and created one big chance, according to figures shared by SpursGlobal.
The 17-year-old replaced Conor Gallagher at half-time and operated in a deeper central midfield role alongside Jamie Donley. It was an unfamiliar position for a player who usually performs closer to goal.
However, Williams-Barnett regularly turned away from pressure and carried possession through midfield. His passing also created excellent opportunities for Richarlison and Yang Min-hyeok, although neither forward converted.

Competition for senior minutes remains intense, while a loan could still aid his development. Even so, Williams-Barnett has earned another opportunity during Tottenham’s upcoming tour.
De Zerbi has called for players to prove themselves regardless of age or reputation. Williams-Barnett responded with a performance which should make the head coach take notice.
