Coulthirst joins Wigan on loan

Shaq Coulthirst has joined Wigan Athletic on loan until November 1.

The young striker had become a mainstay in Ugo Ehiogu’s U21s side and joins the League One side after scoring in last weekend’s opening day win against Everton.

Latics boss Gary Caldwell said, “He’s a young player full of potential and needs experience, we will see how he progresses.

“His qualities will certainly bring something new to the group and provide competition up front.

Coulthirst has had four previous loan spells elsewhere and spent the 2013/14 season at Leyton Orient and Torquay, where he accumulated three goals in eight appearances.

He started last season at Southend United, scoring four times in 22 matches, but ended it at York City achieving two goals in 12 appearances.

Wigan currently lie second bottom in the league after one point in their opening two games, and are out of the League Cup after a loss to Bury.
