Townsend outshone in under-21 defeat

Out of favour Tottenham winger, Andros Townsend was unable to help Spurs’ under-21 side to get a result against oppositions Manchester United as two goals from Andreas Pereira stole the show with two goals as the Red Devils strolled to a comfortable 3-1 victory.

There has been a lot of talk regarding Townsend’s future at White Hart Lane this January after a falling out with Spurs fitness coach Nathan Gardiner put the England international even further down the pecking order in manager Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.

A host of Premier League clubs have taken an interest in the £14 million-rated winger, with teams such as Newcastle, Aston Villa and Sunderland all linked to the Spurs man.

Townsend had a fairly good game for the Spurs young guns, hitting the crossbar and impressing down the right-hand side, however, he was helpless to prevent Will Keane and an Andreas Pereira brace from cancelling out Joe Pritchard’s goal late on.

Given the status of Townsend at Spurs, it will be hard to look beyond a move away from White Hart Lane in January for the Englishman.
