It’s been more than a year since Dejan Kulusevski played any competitive football after suffering an injury while playing for Tottenham Hotspur during the back end of the 2024-25 campaign.
Since then, the Swedish midfielder has worked his socks off to get back on the pitch, but it just hasn’t happened for him.
Kulusevski also missed the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which was a crushing blow for him and Graham Potter as he was widely seen as the creative hub of the team.
He hasn’t returned to competitive action yet but has been spotted doing a bit of work with the ball, which is obviously an encouraging sign.

Dejan Kulusevski edges closer to Tottenham return
Tottenham have a lot of players on the treatment table currently, but no one has been out longer than Kulusevski.
Xavi Simons is recovering from his ACL injury and Mohammed Kudus is almost fully fit after his serious quadriceps injury, while Wilson Odobert isn’t expected to return in the foreseeable future.
James Maddison made his long-awaited ACL return during the back end of last season and has continued to work his way up to full fitness since, which is great news for Tottenham as he hasn’t suffered a setback.
And now, speaking on the Last Word on Spurs podcast, Sessions claimed that Kulusevski will return at some point during the first half of the forthcoming season, although he didn’t mention an exact timeline.
“I think Tottenham will have Dejan Kulusevski at some point in the first half of the season,” claimed the PA Sport correspondent.
Kulusevski’s return could prove to be priceless for Roberto De Zerbi, who hasn’t had the chance to work with him so far.
However, after such a long layoff, Tottenham must err on the side of caution as the Swedish midfielder is set to return from undoubtedly the toughest spell of his professional career.
