Tottenham Hotspur have a gem on their hands in terms of Luka Vuskovic, who has garnered interest from across Europe.
The north London side has a big decision to make regarding the Croatian defender this summer. A lot will depend on whether they are playing in the Premier League or the EFL Championship. However, they must decide whether he will stay with the club or go on another loan.
Amidst this, the injury crisis that Tottenham have had to deal with in the last two seasons has also moved abroad. Vuskovic is currently recovering from a knee injury.
Croatian media explains Tottenham’s clause in Vuskovic’s injury situation
Vuskovic has been stellar on loan at Hamburg in his 27 appearances, scoring five goals and providing one assist. He helped them move away from the relegation zone in the Premier League.
However, the 19-year-old missed their last two games due to a knee injury. German outlet Bild reported that Vuskovic’s knee was “severly damaged”. This caused some panic among the Tottenham and Hamburg fanbase.
However, Croatian outlet Sportske Novosti has provided an update on the situation. They claim that the Tottenham loanee suffered a slight ligament strain in his knee. However, he was scheduled for some rest at this point in the season anyway.

The outlet claim Spurs and Hamburg agreed to rest the youngster for a few games. He is also expected to play a key role for Croatia at the World Cup. Vuskovic will now likely return on May 10 in Hamburg’s clash away against Freiburg.
Moreover, due to a clause in his contract, Tottenham will make the final decision on the defender’s return to action. The medical teams from both clubs will assess the situation and make their decision.
Tottenham must protect Vuskovic
Vuskovic is arguably Tottenham’s best young talent at the moment. He has been exceptional during his loan spells, especially at Hamburg in the Bundesliga. Not only has he been dependable in defense, but he has also provided a brilliant attacking output.
This has seen numerous top European clubs take an interest in the youngster. He is also likely to start for Croatia at the World Cup this summer. While all this experience is great, one must remember that he is just 19. With so many injuries in modern football, Tottenham must protect Vuskovic.

With Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven linked with exits, Spurs could also look to bring him into their first team next season.
They could also look to send him back to Hamburg on loan for another season. It would, however, be only possible if he stays fit and healthy.
