Tottenham Hotspur’s recruitment has been a mixed bag in recent seasons, but it’s safe to say they have a superstar in the making in Luka Vuskovic.
The Croatian defender hasn’t made a competitive appearance for the club but has exploded in Germany during his loan spell at Hamburg.
Vuskovic has taken to the Bundesliga like a duck to water and has dominated opposition attackers, while his ability to score goals has made him a priceless asset on both ends of the pitch.
Tottenham are perilously close to the relegation zone, due to which Vuskovic has been linked with a departure in the summer transfer window.
And now, if reports from Germany are to be believed, a Premier League side have already discussed his signature.
Liverpool make move for Luka Vuskovic
Despite interest from a host of European clubs, including Barcelona, Vuskovic’s future will only be decided in the summer, as confirmed by his agent earlier this month amid his sensational loan spell at Hamburg.
However, that hasn’t stopped clubs from positioning themselves for the towering defender.
Sport Bild confirm that Liverpool have held internal discussions over his signing, with Ibrahima Konate’s future in doubt. The Frenchman has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, the Reds are on the lookout for a central defender to partner Virgil van Dijk.
A point worth noting is that they have already agreed a deal in principle to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, which could mean Vuskovic wouldn’t necessarily be a first-choice starter if he were to move to Anfield.
However, the report seemingly confirms Liverpool’s interest, with Arne Slot’s side the latest team to join the race for one of the hottest defenders on the planet.
State of play for Vuskovic
To put it bluntly, Tottenham face an uphill battle to retain Vuskovic, who is wanted by pretty much every major club in Europe owing to his recent displays for Hamburg.
To make matters worse, the Lilywhites are fighting to preserve their Premier League status as they remain without a win in the competition in 2026 and just a point above the drop zone.
If the unthinkable happens, we can’t see a situation where they manage to retain Vuskovic, who, despite being just 19, is too good to be playing in the Championship.

That said, if Tottenham manage to stay up, they should make Vuskovic the central point of their project, along with Archie Gray, which would give him enough incentive to remain at the club at least for another season.
Regular game time is the name of the game for the defender, who could well be part of the Croatia squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Vuskovic’s future will be a major talking point in the coming months, but Tottenham will do everything in their power to keep hold of their prized asset.
