Tottenham transfer news as late Cristian Romero twist emerges despite Inter agreement

It’s been a summer of change for Tottenham Hotspur under Roberto De Zerbi, especially in terms of their rearguard.

Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson have all joined the club, while Luka Vuskovic’s sale to Brighton came as a bit of a shock.

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero has also been locked in talks with Inter Milan and is likely to leave the club.

And while this has been on the cards for a while now, it appears as if there could be a late twist in the form of Barcelona.

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero has Barcelona on his mind

Since the turn of the year, Romero has been linked with multiple clubs, including Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.

And while Diego Simeone’s side aren’t making a move for him, the Catalan giants reportedly need to make one big sale if they are to press ahead with their interest.

Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari has the latest information on the matter. He reports that Inter and Tottenham are close to reaching an agreement for a fee believed to be in the region of €40m.

Talks are ongoing between the Serie A champions and Romero’s agents to agree personal terms. However, the Argentine defender is reportedly still thinking about a move to Barcelona, with Hansi Flick’s side yet to make a move for him.

All in all, he has already played his last game for Tottenham. But Barcelona’s late interest throws a spanner into the works of the transfer, which will undoubtedly frustrate Inter Milan.

However, judging by all the reporting, he is still keen on a move to Inter Milan and will likely press ahead with the transfer if Barcelona do not make a move for him.

The Romero saga has dragged on for a while now, but it looks like we’re very close to the finish line.
