Luka Vuskovic’s stock has reached an all-time high as the Tottenham Hotspur loanee continues to set the world alight at Hamburg.
The Croatian has quickly become one of the best young defenders in world football, attracting interest from a host of clubs across Europe.
However, his future very much lies in Tottenham’s hands as he will return to the club at the end of the season.
And now, his agent, Pini Zahavi, who has brokered some of the biggest transfers in world football over the years, has made an interesting claim on his future.
Vuskovic a wanted man
Vuskovic has featured 25 times in all competitions so far this season for Hamburg and has delivered a string of magnificent displays at the heart of the backline.
His underlying defensive numbers are proof that he is clearly light-years ahead of his peers, as seen below in the Data MB graphic.
Aside from his ability to spearhead the rearguard, Vuskovic has also scored five goals this season, proving that he is a threat on both sides of the pitch.
Mundo Deportivo confirm that Barcelona are indeed keeping a close eye on his situation, especially with Tottenham currently battling to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Zahavi, however, confirmed that his client is focused on finishing the season, after which he will re-evaluate his situation in the summer.
“I can’t comment on anything at this time. The player still belongs to Hamburg and is completely focused there,” said Zahavi to 365Scores via Mundo.
“I can give an update in exactly two months, that is, after his loan ends and he officially returns to Tottenham.”
Vuskovic could save Tottenham millions
With relegation a real possibility, Tottenham could lose some of their biggest hitters if they drop down to the Championship.
Cristian Romero has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, while Micky van de Ven is reluctant to extend his Tottenham contract amid their struggles on and off the pitch.
The North London outfit did really well to snap up Vuskovic ahead of several other European giants. However, if he leaves without kicking a meaningful ball for the club, it can’t really be seen as a success even if they make a sizeable profit and it would represent a blow to their youth strategy.

The equation is very simple for Tottenham: do whatever it takes to avoid the drop, integrate Vuskovic into the team in pre-season and back him as an undisputed starter next season.
The Croatian is undoubtedly one of the most gifted footballers of his generation and if given the opportunity, he can become a real force to be reckoned with in the not-so-distant future.
