Tottenham Hotspur academy graduate Mikey Moore has shown great progress in the last couple of years, especially this season on loan at Rangers.
After Harry Kane, Tottenham are searching for an academy graduate to become a big success. The likes of Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks failed to make a big impact, and all eyes are now on Moore.
The 18-year-old has already made 21 senior appearances for Spurs, all under Ange Postecoglou, scoring one goal and providing two assists. He looked bright last season, but missed a significant part of the season due to illness.
Tottenham star Mikey Moore details his illness in 2024/25 season
Moore became an important player for Tottenham last season, especially after Wilson Odobert’s injury. He started a couple of games in the UEFA Europa League and made some substitute appearances in the Premier League as well.
However, Moore then missed around 17 games due to illness, remaining out for weeks. His condition was unclear, as Postecoglou also urged the club to protect the then 17-year-old’s privacy.

In a recent documentary made by Tottenham about his time at Rangers, Moore has now opened up about that illness. He explained:
“I was playing really well and started to find my feet in the first team just before the Galatasaray game. I trained two days before it and I was set to start or make an appearance in that game. I went for a driving lesson at the time that night and all of a sudden I felt a bit of pain in my chest.”
“The doctor called me in and said to forget about football for now. It came back that I had myocarditis, which is a virus that went to the heart and gave me the pains in my heart. I was lucky that I caught it early because I am not sure what could have happened after that and whether it could have caused extra things.”
Moore said that he was forbidden from any form of exercise during those six weeks, unlike other injuries, where one can work in the gym. He added that the condition is unlikely to recur.
Moore must be in Tottenham squad next season
Last summer, Moore had many options to go on loan but persisted in joining Rangers. He struggled under Russell Martin, providing just one assist in 10 games. However, since his sacking, the Tottenham star has excelled under Danny Rohl, recording six goals and one assist in 30 games.
Moore has been one of Rangers’ best players in the last few weeks. With the 18-year-old gaining the experience of senior football, he can make a big impact at Spurs next season, especially if they get relegated.

Odobert has suffered an ACL injury and will remain out for a huge chunk of next season. This could give Moore further opportunity to cement his place in the first team under Roberto De Zerbi. It would also give the Italian a much-needed buy-in from the club’s supporters.
