Tottenham parted ways with Heung-min Son last summer after a decade-long stint at the club. They are certainly feeling his absence this season amidst their struggles.
Son was a phenomenal player for Tottenham and one of the best wingers in the Premier League in the last decade. He also captained Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years – the UEFA Europa League.
However, as Son’s influence wasn’t just reserved for the pitch. The South Korean superstar is widely known for being a really good man who formed great connections with other players and staff. He also influenced many young players at Spurs, including Mikey Moore.
Mikey Moore reveals how Son helped him improve
One of the biggest characteristics of Son is his ability on both feet. While he is a right-footed player, he has immense ball-striking ability with his left foot.
Moore, who came through Tottenham’s academy, has said that Son also helped him improve his weak foot. In an interview with The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell, the 18-year-old said:
“Sonny helped me a lot. He was one of my idols so because we were in similar positions I’d ask him questions in training and I’d work with him on my finishing to be as good off both feet. You see how good he is but how humble he is off the pitch and how he makes time for all the academy boys.”
Son joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and recorded 173 goals and 101 assists in 454 games for them. He is the top assist provider in the Premier League for the club with 77. He also won the Puskas Award and the Premier League Golden Boot.
However, even more than his achievements, Son will be remembered for his connection with Spurs, be it with the fans, staff, or the players.
Tottenham need to give chances to Mikey Moore and other youngsters
One of the big complaints of Tottenham fans this season has been the lack of academy integration despite an injury crisis. Callum Olusesi impressed in the rare appearances he has made this year, while Jun’ai Byfield and Luca Williams-Barnett have largely been sidelined.
Moore, meanwhile, made 21 senior appearances for Spurs before being sent out on loan to Rangers last summer. He started poorly at the Scottish club but has become one of their best players this season. He has recorded six goals and one assist in 29 games under Danny Rohl.

The 18-year-old certainly deserves more chances at Tottenham next season, especially considering the quality of their squad.
Wilson Odobert suffered an ACL injury this season, and James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski will be returning from long-term injuries. This could further allow Moore to claim a starting place for his boyhood club.
