Andy Robertson is now officially a Tottenham player after his Liverpool contract expired on 1 July.
Spurs announced the Scotland captain’s signing earlier in the summer, but the move has now formally taken effect ahead of Roberto De Zerbi’s first pre-season in charge.
Tottenham confirmed Robertson’s signing after his Liverpool exit, describing the 32-year-old as one of the Premier League’s most decorated left-backs.
The former Liverpool defender arrives on a free transfer after winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup during his time at Anfield.
For Tottenham, this is not just a low-cost defensive addition.
Robertson gives De Zerbi a senior left-back, dressing-room authority and proven experience in a high-line, high-intensity team.
Robertson Gives Spurs Senior Left-Back Cover
Robertson does not need to be the same player who dominated Liverpool’s left side under Jurgen Klopp every week.
Tottenham need him to bring control, timing and defensive judgement to a squad that looked too open too often last season.
His Premier League record still carries weight. StatMuse lists Robertson on 60 Premier League assists, second among defenders behind Trent Alexander-Arnold.
That matters because Spurs need more than a safe full-back. They need someone who can progress attacks without leaving the team exposed.
Read Tottenham has already covered how Robertson’s arrival forms part of De Zerbi’s defensive rebuild, with Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke and Martin Dubravka also added this summer.
The left side now gives De Zerbi a useful pre-season project.
Robertson’s timing, Micky van de Ven’s recovery pace and the midfield cover inside them will all need work before the Brentford opener.
The move became official on 1 July. The real work starts now.
Tottenham have added a player with medals, experience and a clear understanding of elite Premier League demands. De Zerbi now has to turn that into a settled left side.
