Where does Roberto De Zerbi rank among Premier League’s highest-paid managers after mega Tottenham offer?

Multiple sources have confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur are close to appointing Roberto De Zerbi on a five-year deal.

The Italian is set to replace Igor Tudor at the helm, who left the club by mutual consent on Sunday after just 44 days in charge.

De Zerbi was initially against joining Tottenham, but considering their dire situation, the North London outfit seem to have made a massive offer which has led to a U-turn.

And now, if reports from England are to be believed, the Italian is set to become one of the highest-paid managers in the Premier League.

De Zerbi to become third-highest-paid Premier League boss

After Tudor’s departure, Tottenham considered Sean Dyche, while Mauricio Pochettino continued to be linked with a return to Hotspur Way.

However, the North London outfit have decided De Zerbi is their man, with official confirmation expected this week.

TalkSPORT report that the former Brighton boss is set to become the third-highest-paid manager in the Premier League, behind Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola.

The same report claims Arteta earns £15m-per-season at Arsenal, while Match Bingo cite Guardiola’s Manchester City salary as £20m-a-year, excluding bonuses.

De Zerbi’s exact Tottenham salary has yet to emerge, but based on the above facts, he is set to earn in excess of £10m, making him one of the highest-paid managers in the club’s history.

All or nothing for Tottenham

Tottenham are in a spot of bother in the Premier League relegation battle, so their decision to turn to De Zerbi is their last throw of the dice.

Despite the prospect of dropping down to the Championship, they have offered him a five-year deal. The aforementioned report confirms that De Zerbi’s salary will reduce if Tottenham are relegated, assuming he opts to carry on managing in the second division.

He is no stranger to the Premier League, having already managed Brighton, while he’s also experienced on the grandest stage due to his stints with Shakhtar Donetsk and Marseille.

However, De Zerbi is a fiery character and his brand of football requires a lot of coaching.

Time is of the essence at the moment as Tottenham need to put points on the board to save themselves, so the quicker he gets through to his players, the better.
