Tottenham next manager: The minimum guarantee Sean Dyche wants to immediately take the job

Tottenham’s interest in Sean Dyche is well-documented as they remain on the lookout for their fourth manager in 10 months after Igor Tudor’s departure.

After replacing Thomas Frank as interim boss, the Croatian lasted just seven games in all competitions, picking up just one point from five Premier League games.

The North London outfit are sleepwalking into relegation and with teams around them starting to pick up the pace, they face an uphill battle to remain in the Premier League.

Dyche is of interest to Tottenham, but getting him on board won’t be as straightforward after his Nottingham Forest sacking.

And now, the Englishman has set a clear condition to take the job, if reports from England are to be believed.

Dyche unwilling to take short-term Tottenham deal

Earlier this season, Dyche took over the reigns at Forest to replace a certain Ange Postecoglou, who didn’t last long at the club under Evangelos Marinakis.

And despite winning six Premier League games out of 18, he was sacked after Forest’s 0-0 draw against Wolves last month, which was seen as a harsh decision at the time.

Last week, David Ornstein reported that Dyche has reservations about the Tottenham job if he only gets a contract until the end of the season.

And now, the BBC have doubled down on those claims, reporting that the Englishman would demand a minimum 18-month contract to consider taking the job.

By all accounts, it looks like Tottenham want someone to help them avoid relegation and move on, which would allow them to get a new, permanent manager in place for next season.

If that were to be the case, Dyche would be out of the running, as multiple sources have now confirmed that he is unwilling to take a short-term deal.

Dyche also addressed the Tottenham links directly, describing them as a ‘massive’ club. However, he appeared to downplay the speculation, which is a sign that nothing is imminent, at least.

Dyche right to ask for minimum guarantee

The Englishman is an experienced figure and has had a managerial career he can be proud of. He managed to steer Burnley and Everton out of safety a handful of times and also fared quite well for Forest, so it’s not wrong of him to expect a longer contract.

Tottenham want Roberto De Zerbi as their manager next season, which is why they are probably reluctant to offer Dyche a deal beyond the current season.

At this point, it looks like no middle ground can be reached. However, considering Tottenham’s dire situation, they might cede to Dyche’s demands as his track record is absolutely elite when it comes to avoiding relegation.
