Over the past 48 hours, Sean Dyche’s name has been thrown into the hat for Tottenham Hotspur as they continue to assess Igor Tudor’s future.
The Croatian is currently taking time away from his job due to the passing of his father, which he was made aware of immediately after Tottenham’s 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Tudor’s future is set to be decided on Monday, so there’s not long left now. In the meantime, Tottenham have been linked with a move for Dyche, who only left his role at Forest last month.
And now, the Englishman has clarified his future in an elaborate conversation with talkSPORT.
Dyche remains coy about Tottenham links
Dyche has saved Burnley and Everton from relegation a handful of times in his Premier League career so far, so he certainly has more experience in this regard than Tudor, who, in his own right, has conducted a handful of fire-fighting jobs in Italy.
He was spotted by a fan in North London last night and asked about links to Tottenham, to which he didn’t provide a response.
And now, in a show with talkSPORT, Dyche described Tottenham as a ‘massive’ club, although he appeared to keep his cards close to his chest.
“I was in the pub just up the road and this guy goes ‘you’re meant to be in talks with Spurs tonight’ and I said ‘well I’m standing next to you having a pint of Guinness, so it’s unlikely!’
“When you’re linked to a club you get constant clickbait and no matter what you do, it’s a very tricky situation,” said Dyche on talkSPORT.
“When you’re a manager, you know you’re going to get asked these questions at some point.
“When you get asked by them, you try to be respectful. Tottenham are a brilliant club and a massive club, so when you say ‘I’m flattered’ everyone then goes ‘he hasn’t said no!’”
Dyche’s inhibitions emerge
Dyche has never shied away from a relegation fight, having successfully kept teams up in the not-so-distant past.
It could also be argued that Forest’s decision to sack him was a bit harsh, as he spearheaded them to six wins from 18 Premier League games, which isn’t relegation form by any stretch of the imagination.
However, Dyche has inhibitions about joining Tottenham as the North London outfit would only be able to offer him a short-term deal until the end of the season.
Amidst all this, it is important to note that Tudor is still in charge of the club, so until his situation is clarified, rumours involving Dyche – or anyone else – will just remain paper talk.
