Dejan Kulusevski hasn’t featured for Tottenham Hotspur this season after sustaining a knee injury towards the back end of the 2024-25 campaign.
The Swedish international has been a key absentee for the club this season as they continue to falter in the Premier League relegation battle.
In late February, Igor Tudor confirmed that Kulusevski was close to rejoining team training. However, a month has passed, and the elegant midfielder is no closer to returning to action, which has emerged as a cause for concern.
To make matters worse, the 25-year-old, who was invited by Graham Potter to be part of the Sweden camp ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff against Ukraine, was spotted limping in a video that emerged on social media.
And now, Kulusevski has allayed fears that he has suffered an injury setback as he provided an update on his situation.
Kulusevski plays down injury setback claims
Speaking ahead of Sweden’s crucial two-legged tie against Ukraine, Potter revealed that Kulusevski would join the rest of his teammates to bask in the atmosphere and meet the rest of the squad.
“Dejan is in Spain, so I think he will come here and meet us. It will be nice to see him. At the stage he is in his rehab, it is okay for him,” Potter told Aftonbladet via GOAL.
“For others, it is more difficult because they are at a stage in their rehab where it means it is more difficult to be on the pitch. But Dejan will come by and it will be fantastic.”
He was spotted with the Sweden squad, but a video emerged of him limping, which led to claims that he is no closer to returning to action.
However, Kulusevski has clarified the situation, claiming that he underwent a small procedure on his knee in a bid to fast-track his return to action.
The former Juventus man will not be in competitive action for his country but will be present with his teammates as they look to book their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
When could Kulusevski return for Tottenham?
Kulsevski last featured in May 2025 and has endured the toughest spell of his career. While his injury was initially described as a knock, his right patellar tendon was damaged, due to which he underwent surgery.
The worst of it seems to be over, but it remains to be seen if he returns to action in the coming weeks for Tottenham.

As things stand, there is no chance he will be fit for the Premier League clash against Sunderland, which is scheduled to happen on the 12th of April.
However, if everything goes well, don’t be surprised to see the Swede feature at Tottenham at some point in the back end of the season.
And his return could well prove to be the difference between Premier League and Championship football next season because that’s how important a player he is for Tottenham.
