Morgan Gibbs-White aims sly dig at Tottenham after starring for Nottingham Forest in 3-0 win

Morgan Gibbs-White rubbed salt into the wounds of the Tottenham faithful with a magnificent display as Nottingham Forest secured a 3-0 win away from home.

The Englishman was close to a move to North London in the summer but the deal fell through after everything was agreed as Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis stepped in to prevent the transfer.

Gibbs-White stayed put at Forest and has endured a fantastic season on a personal note as he continues to enjoy his role as the leading man.

And now, after starring against the club he could have joined, he has taken a cheeky dig at Tottenham’s desire after his side secured three priceless points on their travels.

Gibbs-White says Forest showed more desire than Tottenham

Tottenham started on the front foot and looked like they’d build on their performances against Liverpool and Atletico Madrid last week.

However, their hopes of securing a positive result suffered a massive blow just before half-time as Igor Jesus’ bullet header gave Forest the lead against the run of play.

In the second half, the away side took control of the game, with Gibbs-White in the thick of the action.

He scored his ninth Premier League goal of the season from close range to give his side a 2-0 goal lead, after which Taiwo Awoniyi came on as a substitute to score Forest’s third goal and put the result beyond reasonable doubt.

“Massive three points for us, especially with how the Premier League table looks now,” said the Forest captain to BBC Sport after the game.

“The boys were absolutely incredible. Tottenham are a really good team and they started playing better than us. We needed to be together as a team and we showed that. But as soon as we got the second goal, we got that edge to breathe a little bit.

The England international claimed his players showed more fight and desire than Tottenham, who fell flat at home and ran out of gas despite the home support being in full voice.

“They have got incredible talent but we showed that fight, hunger and desire more than them,” continued Gibbs-White.

“When we had our chances, we took them. It was a perfect time to score the opener that allowed us to play football again.

“I am pleased how the week has gone and the boys deserved it. Taking a win today, going into the international break is perfect for us. We can all relax a bit and hit the ground running with positive vibes coming into the next weeks.”

Tottenham back to square one

Tottenham don’t play again until April 12th when they take on Sunderland in the Premier League.

With the international break on the horizon, it remains to be seen what happens with Igor Tudor. The Croatian has secured just one point from five Premier League games so far, which simply isn’t good enough for a team fighting to avoid the drop.

Their injury woes have also eased in recent weeks, which is another reason why results should have been a lot better.

Before they kick a ball in the Premier League next, they could be in the relegation zone if West Ham United get all three points against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The prospect of relegation is looming large for the North London outfit, who are in the middle of their worst run domestically in nearly 100 years.
