‘Shocking’ Tottenham player slammed for what he did in the first half vs Liverpool

Tottenham Hotspur are on their way to another defeat in the Premier League under Igor Tudor as they find themselves 1-0 behind against Liverpool at halftime.

Just goal difference separates Spurs, West Ham United and Nottingham Forest at the bottom of the Premier League as the possibility of relegation continues to loom large at N17.

A lot has been said about Tottenham’s goalkeeping situation in recent weeks. Guglielmo Vicario has been linked with Inter Milan and Juventus as he continues to blow hot and cold between the sticks.

And everyone knows how Antonin Kinsky’s time under the sun went, with the Czech goalkeeper making two calamitous errors against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.

And now, Vicario has come under the spotlight for his failure to prevent Dominik Szoboszlai’s free kick.

Vicario disappoints for Tottenham again

Szoboszlai’s free-kicks have been unbelievable, to say the least, this season. However, this time around, it wasn’t his finest strike, although the ball landed in the back of the net for the solitary goal of the first half.

The Hungarian got the ball on target over the ball, but Vicario was expected to save it as it was struck fairly centrally. He got a hand to it, but it wasn’t enough as Tottenham went behind in a Premier League game once again, much to the anguish of the away fans.

Speaking on live commentary (quotes via Sky Sports), Carragher described the moment as shocking, claiming that Tottenham have huge problems in goal.

Clinton Morisson also had his say on the matter, as he appeared to suggest Vicario should have done better to save Szoboszlai’s effort.

He said on BBC 5 Live: “It is a fantastic free-kick. The whip, dip and swerve of it – it is a brilliant free-kick. But it wasn’t one of Dominik Szoboszlai’s best ones, and it is poor goalkeeping from Guglielmo Vicario.”

Tottenham lined up with a 4-4-2 and to be fair to them, they looked a bit more energetic on the night.

Mathys Tel, in particular, produced a lively display in the first half and produced two fantastic crosses, only for Richarlison to head wide on both occasions.

Tudor doesn’t have too many options to turn to, with Xavi Simons and Randal Kolo Muani the only fit senior outfield players on the bench.

Tottenham need to find an early goal in the second half and with teams around them starting to pick up points, the fight to avoid the drop is getting tougher with each passing game.
