Lucas Bergvall’s future at Tottenham Hotspur has come under increased scrutiny in recent weeks.
The young Swede is currently injured but has shown his class in North London over the past 18 months, being named Tottenham’s Player of the Month last year.
Bergvall was linked with Chelsea and Aston Villa in the dying embers of the January transfer window. However, Spurs rebuffed all approaches, which is a sign that they have no intention of parting with their prized asset.
However, if reports are to be believed, that hasn’t stopped other clubs from courting the player, with Liverpool also making their interest clear.
Liverpool want to sign Lucas Bergvall from Tottenham
Bergvall should make his injury return for Tottenham next month as he continues to recover from an ankle injury he sustained against Borussia Dortmund.
Despite his spell on the sidelines, two clubs were ready to take a punt on him in Janaury, proving that he is held in high regard.
While Chelsea and Aston Villa’s approaches were swiftly turned down, Team Talk now report that Liverpool have declared an interest in the 20-year-old as they aim to add more quality to their midfield.
Juventus’ Khephren Thuram is also believed to be on the Reds’ radar, who, much like Tottenham, have also struggled this season owing to injuries and poor form.
Spurs are braced for summer approaches for Bergvall, who joined the club from Swedish side Djurgarden for a fee believed to be in the region of £8.5m in 2024.
Tottenham can’t afford to lose Bergvall
To put things bluntly, Tottenham can’t afford to lose out on a player of Bergvall’s quality, let alone to another Premier League club.
Granted, the North London outfit have struggled domestically over the past two seasons and their incoming transfers have been a mixed bag at best.
However, with reports of Mauricio Pochettino returning to Tottenham intensifying, the club should do everything within their powers to keep their best talents while also scouring the market for young players who could explode under the Argentine.

Pochettino worked his magic with the likes of Dele Alli, Son Heung-min, Christian Eriksen and a host of other players during his first spell at the club.
And if everything goes well for Bergvall, there is no reason why he can’t follow in those footsteps at Tottenham, regardless of who takes the job permanently in the summer.
This is one of the most talented players Spurs have had in recent seasons, so the idea of potentially parting with him – even for a sizeable sum – shouldn’t even be entertained.
