Lucas Bergvall is currently out of action for Tottenham Hotspur after suffering an ankle injury in January.
The young Swede was named as the club’s Player of the Year last season in his debut season for the club as he played a starring role under Ange Postecoglou.
Under Thomas Frank, however, he didn’t feature as often as he did in the previous campaign, leading to speculation surrounding his future.
And now, David Ornstein has confirmed what Tottenham plan to do with Bergvall after two Premier League sides tried to sign him in January.
Tottenham braced for summer bids for Bergvall
Bergvall agreed a deal to join Tottenham in January 2024 before officially joining the club six months later.
He snubbed Barcelona and a host of European heavyweights to join Tottenham, providing the club with a massive boost.
And while his first season at the club went down as an unwavering success, the current campaign has proved to be slightly difficult.
Despite his ankle injury, The Athletic confirm that Aston Villa and Chelsea made approaches to snap him up in January, although Tottenham showed no interest in parting with their prized asset.
The report also confirms that Tottenham could face a battle to retain Bergvall in the summer if some of Europe’s big boys come in for him.
The Swede’s long-term future could depend on who takes over the reigns at Tottenham permanently, with Igor Tudor officially joining the club on an interim basis.
When will Bergvall return from injury?
An ankle injury cut Bergvall’s night short in the second half of Tottenham’s 2-0 UEFA Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund last month.
A report from BBC Sport claimed at the time that he could be out of action for around three months, which would lead to him missing Sweden’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff semi-final against Ukraine.

Sweden boss Graham Potter updated the media on the 20-year-old’s injury and warned that he faces a race against time to be fit for the Ukraine clash.
“There’s a little time left until the match against Ukraine and it’s going to be tough for them [Bergvall and Stoke City’s Viktor Johansson], but we’re hoping for them too,” said Potter via Sportbladet.
