Tottenham willing to battle 11 European giants for German wonderkid

Over the past few years, Tottenham have signed some rough diamonds and developed them into top-class footballers.

Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall certainly fall in that category and will hopefully remain at the club for the long haul.

The Lilywhites also nabbed Luka Vuskovic years ago, but he left without making his competitive debut for the club. Nevertheless, that counts as a success story for them as they made a sizable profit on the defender.

And now, TEAMtalk report that they are in the running to sign 15-year-old midfielder Niko Ilicevic, who has made a massive impression in Germany.

Tottenham in the hunt for Niko Ilicevic

Tottenham, along with 11 European giants such as Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, are keeping tabs on the youngster.

However, Frankfurt have mapped out a pathway for him and want to retain him for now as they believe he has all the tools to make it to the top.

An excerpt from the article reads: “Frankfurt believe he is close enough to senior football to be introduced gradually once he is eligible, and they want his pathway to begin in the Bundesliga rather than abroad.

“The club are in a relatively strong position. Iličević is tied to Frankfurt until 2029, and the existing agreement is due to convert into a professional contract on his 16th birthday.

“Frankfurt have already presented him with a clear development plan in an attempt to fend off outside interest before it becomes an official pursuit.

“No negotiations are understood to have opened yet, but as soon as he turns 16, that is likely to change.”

To put it bluntly, Tottenham are going against half of Europe for Ilicevic’s signature while also knowing that Frankfurt will do whatever it takes to keep him for the foreseeable future.

At this point in time, it doesn’t sound so reassuring, to say the least.
