Tottenham dealt massive blow in race for £72m-rated attacker

Tottenham Hotspur’s £230m spending spree is well documented, but Roberto De Zerbi still has a lot of work to add some more firepower to his squad.

Eli Junior Kroupi was linked with Tottenham before his injury, while the Lilywhites are also interested in signing Savinho from Manchester City.

Earlier this summer, we wrote on Read Tottenham that Spurs are keeping tabs on Cody Gakpo, whose situation at Liverpool is one to keep an eye on.

And now, TEAMtalk have poured cold water over claims that he could move to North London this summer.

Liverpool unwilling to sell Cody Gakpo to Tottenham

The aforementioned report states that Gakpo is receptive to Tottenham’s approach as he wouldn’t be Liverpool’s first-choice attacker.

With Alexander Isak set to lead the line and Rio Ngumoha set to play on one wing, the impending arrival of Bradley Barcola – if the transfer happens – means the Dutchman would have to be relegated to the bench.

Spurs appreciate Gakpo’s versatility, and yesterday, Anfield Watch reported that Liverpool value him at around £72m.

However, TEAMtalk confirms that Liverpool have thus far shown no indication that they could allow Gakpo to leave. Andoni Iraola is planning with the 27-year-old in his squad, so the Lilywhites may have to look elsewhere for attacking signings.

Unless the situation changes dramatically, it doesn’t look like Gakpo will play for Tottenham next season.
