Tottenham Hotspur are in a spot of bother and desperately need results on the board in the Premier League.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side are rooted to the bottom of the standings and simply haven’t been good enough so far this season.
Their problems in front of goal are well documented, especially with Richarlison frozen out of the squad and Dominic Solanke out of form.
Earlier this summer, Tottenham were linked with a move for Mauro Icardi, who is a free agent after leaving Galatasaray.
At the time, several reports in England confirmed that the move wouldn’t happen. Now, however, it appears as if they have had a change of heart.
Mauro Icardi attracting Tottenham interest
Caught Offside claim that De Zerbi feels Icardi could be a valuable addition to the squad on a free transfer.
However, the report also makes it abundantly clear that no formal offer has been made to the player, who is currently a free agent.
An excerpt from their article reads, “A move to Tottenham would give Icardi an opportunity to return to one of Europe’s top leagues, while Spurs could acquire a proven striker without paying a transfer fee.
“However, there is no indication that Tottenham have made a formal offer for the Argentine yet. Reports suggest the club previously considered signing him but decided against it at that stage.
“Everton have also shown interest in Icardi, meaning Tottenham could face competition if they decide to revive their pursuit.
“It remains to be seen whether De Zerbi can convince the Spurs hierarchy to make a move. For now, Icardi remains an intriguing option as Tottenham assess their attacking needs.”
Icardi is a bit of a problematic character and is past his best, while his wage demands would also be on the higher side.
Tottenham are in a spot of bother, but surely there are better options out there if they wait it out until January.
