Tottenham’s 2-0 win against Chelsea was marred by an injury to James Maddison.
The England international made only his second start of the season but was withdrawn early in the second half as he walked straight down the tunnel.
It was an otherwise happy outing for the Lilywhites, who won at Stamford Bridge for only the second time in the Premier League era thanks to a fantastic goal from Mathys Tel and an own goal from Mike Penders.
Speaking after the game, Roberto De Zerbi claimed Maddison’s injury isn’t serious as Tottenham nervously wait to see if he returns to action.
James Maddison injury update for Tottenham
“I think it’s not a very important problem,” said De Zerbi via Football London.
“We need to do the medical check tomorrow, after tomorrow, I don’t know. I hope it’s not a big problem because he’s a special player for us. We need him.”
Maddison has been hampered by injuries over the past two seasons and has barely played competitive football.
Setbacks like this are natural when a player is returning from a long-term injury, but it also goes without saying that it’s becoming a massive problem for Tottenham.
Fingers crossed this one isn’t serious.
