Tottenham’s win against Coventry City last week proved to be a memorable one, not just for the result.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side got their first Premier League win of the season to climb out of the relegation zone as they moved to 16th in the table.
The game also marked the return of Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison, two players who have missed truckloads of football in recent years due to long-term injuries.
And now, ahead of the game against Chelsea, De Zerbi feels both players are fine and expected to feature later tonight.
Roberto De Zerbi confirms Tottenham injury boost
“I don’t know if they start on the pitch or on the bench, but they are both available to play,” said the Italian in his club interview ahead of the game.
“We have to manage both in the best way we can because they are different players, in qualities, in personality, and in experience, and we need them.”
In his pre-match press conference, however, his tone seemed slightly different.
“I don’t know, because in the first three days Maddison didn’t work with us, I don’t know if he’s ready for tomorrow,” said De Zerbi via Football London.\
“Like I said many times, I don’t want to take risks, because if you analyse this period of European football, you can see many injuries, not [just] for Tottenham, for everyone.
“So if I can, I don’t want to take risks to lose many players for many games. Kulusevski worked well, but in the first days he stayed individual.”
It appears as if De Zerbi is just treading carefully with two key players, as they have just returned from long-term injuries, so they are expected to be available for the game tonight.
