Tottenham secured arguably their most impressive win under Roberto De Zerbi as they beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
A second-half own goal from Mike Penders, followed by a brilliant solo effort from Mathys Tel, set the Lilywhites on their way to only their second-ever Premier League win at the home of the Blues.
Three games ago, Tottenham were rooted to the bottom of the Premier League standings and hadn’t won a game in the competition.
Now, however, with seven points out of a possible nine from their next three, they finally appear to have come into their own under De Zerbi.
And the Italian believes his players ‘removed their mask’ before their 1-1 draw against Manchester United.
Tottenham finally delivering under Roberto De Zerbi
“I think what I call the negative record was the last problem we fought before the game,” said De Zerbi when asked about Tottenham’s abysmal record at Stamford Bridge.
“Normally we wanted to make our fans happy, but it’s not our responsibility; it’s the result of the past.
“Now, winning the game, we are very happy for them, very proud of the club. But I think we are working to change the mentality of our club in the last seasons.
“Seven points after Manchester, before Manchester we spoke a lot. A big, big meeting, removing the mask and speaking honestly, clearly in front of ourselves. And from that moment I think we changed something in ourselves.”
The ‘removing the mask’ phrase is particularly memorable as it certainly looks like De Zerbi’s squad have arrived on the grandest stage. Long may it continue!
