Tottenham Hotspur stepped up their preparations for the new season with a 1-0 win against MK Dons yesterday in a friendly.
Mateus Fernandes opened his account for Tottenham with a stunning strike from outside the box in the first half, which turned out to be the solitary goal of the game.
After that, the Lilywhites jetted off to New Zealand to continue their pre-season tour as Roberto De Zerbi named a 35-man squad for the trip.
Guglielmo Vicario was omitted from the squad, and now, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Italian goalkeeper will leave the club.
Vicario to leave Tottenham this summer
Vicario has been heavily linked with Inter Milan and Juventus, although a transfer hasn’t materialised so far.
He was injured during the back end of last season and Antonin Kinsky fared admirably as he sealed his spot as Tottenham’s first-choice goalkeeper.
And now, Vicario’s omission from the 36-man squad for the trip to New Zealand is the clearest hint yet that he has already played his last game for the club.
Fabrizio Romano says the Italian will surely leave, as he wrote on X: “Guglielmo Vicario, left out of Tottenham pre-season tour as he’s fully expected to leave the club this summer.”
It wasn’t a fairytale ending for Vic, but Tottenham fans will always remember his outstanding displays on their way to winning the UEFA Europa League in 2025.
Even last season, Archie Gray described the former Empoli man as an ‘unbelievable’ goalkeeper after his string of saves earned them a point against Monaco in the UEFA Champions League.
“It was a difficult game. We weren’t at our best. They were on top for most of the game and Guglielmo Vicario kept us in it,” Gray said via FotMob.
“We always stick together, but Vic was unbelievable, keeping us in the game. We will learn from these tough moments. I believe this team can do anything. We all believe in each other.”
