- Tottenham could still get relegated on the final day
- Roberto De Zerbi needs to ring in the changes
- Spurs need to match or better West Ham’s result to stay up
As we head into the final matchday of the 2025-26 Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur still stand a chance of being relegated to the Championship.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side fell to a 2-1 defeat against Chelsea on Tuesday night, a result that has filled Spurs fans around the world with considerable anxiety.
After West Ham United’s defeat against Newcastle, Tottenham only needed a point against the Blues to effectively confirm their Premier League status.
However, that wasn’t to be, as they crumbled under pressure at Stamford Bridge.
And now, De Zerbi must quickly course correct for the game against Everton as the margin for error is as slim as it’s ever been.
De Zerbi to ring in the changes for Tottenham vs Everton clash
Tottenham’s squad has been massively depleted due to injuries, but in recent weeks, some of their players haven’t stepped up to the plate.
And with their spot in the Premier League at stake, the Italian needs to ensure he gets his lineup bang on the money against Everton at home.
Randal Kolo Muani must be dropped
Kolo Muani came under a lot of criticism for his performance against Chelsea. In attack, he didn’t really show too much composure and failed to make a meaningful contribution.
However, the defining moment of the game was when his poor back pass led to Chelsea’s goal as he was left with his hands on his head.
Micky van de Ven gave him a rolicking after his mistake and he was substituted shortly afterwards to cap off one of his worst nights as a Tottenham player.
Maybe De Zerbi could use Djed Spence as a right back and move Pedro Porro to the right wing, relegating the Frenchman to a spot on the bench against Everton.
Vicario back for Kinsky
Antonin Kinsky has fared quite well in Guglielmo Vicario’s absence, but the Italian is now back to full fitness after recovering from hernia surgery.
Before the game against Chelsea, we wrote on Read Tottenham that Kinsky should keep his spot at Stamford Bridge.
Changing our opinion within a few days makes us sound a bit fickle, but Vicario’s experience and character could be massive on the final day of the season.
The Czech goalkeeper couldn’t have done much to prevent Andrey Santos’ goal, but he was beaten too easily for Enzo Fernandez’s opener.
No one should blame Kinsky as he has recovered admirably from that horror night in Spain. However, De Zerbi reiterated that Vicario is his first-choice goalkeeper at Tottenham, so don’t be surprised to see him start between the sticks vs Everton.
James Maddison has to start
Once again, this might be an irresponsible claim to make as James Maddison is just working his way back up to full fitness after his ACL injury.
However, Tottenham are in a grave situation, so if the Englishman is capable of playing more than 45 minutes, he must start against Everton.
He almost won a penalty against Leeds and was denied by a fantastic tackle from Jorel Hato vs Chelsea, so he’s had his moments in the last two games.
Maddison is capable of deciding games single-handedly and Tottenham might need a moment or two like that to save them from the drop.
De Zerbi doesn’t have too many options, but as we mentioned earlier, don’t be surprised to see him make a change or two on Sunday.
