- Tottenham Hotspur will remain in the Premier League next season
- Joao Palhinha scored the all-important goal vs Everton
- Spurs should sign Portuguese midfielder permanently
This is not a drill – Tottenham Hotspur will officially remain in the Premier League next season after successfully managing to avoid relegation.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side secured a crucial 1-0 win against Everton at home, with Joao Palhinha scoring the solitary goal of the game.
West Ham United’s 3-0 win against Leeds United at home went in vain, with the Hammers relegated to the Championship despite their resounding showing.
Tottenham have successfully negotiated the worst period in their recent history and have De Zerbi to thank for his outstanding impact at the club since replacing Igor Tudor.
And the Italian’s first big signing at the club couldn’t be more obvious.
Tottenham must sign Joao Palhinha permanently
Since joining the club on loan from Bayern Munich last summer, Palhinha has been fully fit, which in itself is an achievement considering the state of the current squad.
He has really come into his own during the back end of the campaign and become a key player for De Zerbi.
Aside from his tough tackling and experience in midfield, Palhinha also has a knack for scoring important goals, as was the case twice against Wolves in the Premier League and also earlier today.
Earlier this month, De Zerbi confirmed that he would ask Tottenham to sign Palhinha permanently.
And considering how well the former Fulham man has fared since his arrival, it seems like an absolute no-brainer at this point.
With Cristian Romero set to leave, Tottenham also need new leaders to step up to the plate.
Palhinha could help in this regard as well, as is the case with the likes of Conor Gallagher and Pedro Porro.
Palhinha wanted by other clubs
Earlier this month, we reported on Read Tottenham that Palhinha is wanted by three Portuguese clubs: FC Porto, Benfica and Sporting CP.
However, Tottenham have the option to sign him permanently for around £20m, which, quite frankly, is a bargain for a player of his experience.
His future at Bayern is essentially over, so a transfer is surely on the cards.
Time will tell whether Tottenham sign Palhinha permanently, but it goes without saying that he is a true warrior who conducted himself with utmost dignity and class throughout the season to save the club from the drop.
If this was his last appearance for the club, it truly was a pleasure.
