After Luka Vuskovic, another Tottenham loanee suffers crushing injury blow

Tottenham Hotspur are in the relegation zone and their injury crisis has played a major role in it for the second year in a row.

Spurs have been without arguably two of their top three players in Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison for this entire season. Wilson Odobert was ruled out of the season in February, while Cristian Romero also suffered a season-ending injury earlier this month.

Mohammed Kudus was set to return, but is out for the season after a setback. Meanwhile, the likes of Dominic Solanke, Rodrigo Bentancur and Destiny Udogie have missed months due to injuries. This crisis, however, isn’t limited to the club’s premises.

Tottenham loanee George Abbott out for the season

Spurs have numerous players out on loan, and they have had contrasting seasons. However, one player, who has consistently impressed on his loan spells, is midfielder George Abbott.

The 20-year-old was sent on loan to Wycombe Wanderers last summer. However, due to a quad injury, he was recalled in January and was then sent to Mansfield Town. He has made 11 appearances for them, contributing one goal and one assist.

However, as per Football.London, Abbott’s loan spell will be cut short. This is because the Englishman has suffered a serious quad injury that will keep him out until pre-season. He could potentially return to Spurs now.

This comes just after Tottenham loanee Luka Vuskovic suffered a “severe” knee injury. The Croatian defender was having an exceptional loan at Hamburg, helping them avoid relegation. However, he is now set to spend some time away from action.

Spurs will hope these injuries aren’t too serious as they plan for pre-season and further loans. Abbott captained Tottenham’s U21 side to the league title in the 2023-24 season.

He has shown immense promise, and the club would hope to get him a Championship loan next season.

Tottenham also have Oliver Irow at Mansfield

Spurs also sent winger Oliver Irow on loan to Mansfield Town in January this year, alongside Abbott. The latter also spoke about reuniting with his Tottenham teammate, telling the BBC:

“When I first saw him (Irow) come here at the start of the window, I was really pleased for him.

“As it became more and more likely that I was coming [here] I was really looking forward to it – just for the fact he was here as well, and I could settle in a lot quicker.”

Irow scored two goals on his debut for Mansfield Town, but has been without a goal contribution in 15 appearances since. He has started just seven games for the League One side.

With five games remaining, Tottenham are in danger of getting relegated to the Championship next season. Hence, they will be monitoring these loan spells even more closely to see a potential first-team fit if they do get relegated.
