Tottenham Hotspur finally stopped the rot in the Premier League as they secured a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield.

Dominik Szoboszlai broke the deadlock for the hosts with a free-kick in the first half, but Richarlison restored parity late in the game with a cool finish to secure his side a priceless point.

Tottenham are now 16th, a point above the relegation zone, with Leeds United, West Ham United and Nottingham Forest also picking up a point each this weekend.

Pedro Porro started as a right-back in a 4-4-2 and also wore the captain’s armband in the absence of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

And now, the Spanish international has come to the defense of Igor Tudor, who has been on the wrong end of a lot of criticism during his short stint in charge of the club.

Porro says Tottenham playing for Tudor

Tudor is winless since replacing Thomas Frank as interim coach, but a point against Liverpool at Anfield could be priceless in Tottenham’s pursuit of Premier League safety.

And it’s safe to say the away side produced their best performance under their new manager as they gave it their all to get a well-deserved point.

With only 13 fit, senior players in the squad, Tudor improvised and lined up with a 4-4-2 against Liverpool to get the best out of his players.

Speaking after the game, Porro claimed Tottenham tried their best to stay in the game despite going 1-0 down as they fought back through Richarlison in stoppage time.

“We needed to push because it was a difficult game. Today the team was good, the fans were unbelievable also and we keep going now,” said the Spaniard via BBC.

“I always believe in my team. In this moment, you need everyone together and today we had a good game. For now, we take the point, take the positive things.”

“We needed to follow the plan for today. My teammates did the same, in this moment we knew we had to stay 1-0 in the second half and this was important for the game. We are playing for the manager and this is important for everyone now.”

Tottenham take on Nottingham Forest next week in a game that could define the course of the relegation battle. They have European commitments to cater to in between, but their eyes will be on the fixture against Vitor Pereira’s side.

A win there could really boost their chances of survival while also denting Forest’s hopes of staying up, making it one of their most important games in recent history.
