Tottenham Hotspur are well and truly in a relegation dog fight in the Premier League alongside West Ham United and Nottingham Forest.
While they are 16th in the table with 29 points to their name, the aforementioned sides have found form in recent weeks and are breathing down their necks as they find themselves just a point below Igor Tudor’s side.
West Ham, in particular, have really pulled up their socks in recent weeks to preserve their Premier League status.
And if reports are to be believed, Tottenham are leading the race to sign a player who has emerged at the forefront of their success in recent weeks.
Tottenham’s Crysencio Summerville irony
Crysencio Summerville is arguably playing the best football of his career currently and has become a fan favourite at the London Stadium.
A month or two ago, West Ham looked resigned for the drop as most of their big hitters were out of form. However, when his team needed him most, the Dutchman stepped up to the plate to deliver a string of outstanding displays to give them a fighting chance of survival.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, as many as nine teams across the continent are keeping tabs on Summerville, with Tottenham believed to be at the ‘front of the queue.’
However, with Tottenham and West Ham fighting to avoid relegation, everything depends on how the rest of the season pans out.
Aston Villa, Brentford, Everton and Bournemouth are all keeping tabs on the winger, while the likes of Marseille, Napoli, Atalanta and Villarreal are the teams from abroad who are monitoring the situation with intent.
The report, however, states that West Ham will do everything they can to fend off interest in Summerville if they avoid relegation.
Summerville’s record this season
The Dutchman looked desperately out of sorts at the start of the season – much like the rest of the West Ham team – as he struggled for form and consistency.
However, it wouldn’t be going too far in saying that Summerville has been one of the most in-form players in world football since the turn of the year.
With seven goals and an assist to his name in his last 10 appearances, the 24-year-old has led from the front for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, most recently scoring in their 1-0 win against Fulham.

The cruel irony in all this is that Summerville’s recent form could be detrimental to Tottenham’s own survival hopes, and in turn, their Premier League status.
If the Dutchman continues his fine run of form and saves West Ham from relegation, it will come at the cost of Tottenham or Forest’s Premier League status.
Earlier this year, reports from England claimed that Tottenham are interested in signing Jarrod Bowen, who could leave the London Stadium if they drop down to the Championship.
All in all, there is a lot at stake for the two clubs over just their Premier League statuses. The upcoming weeks will give us a clearer picture, that’s for sure.
