Mohammed Kudus swapped West Ham United for Tottenham Hotspur last summer for a fee believed to be in the region of £55m.
The Ghanaian became one of Thomas Frank’s big captures in the transfer market as the Dane aimed to build on Tottenham’s UEFA Europa League triumph under Ange Postecoglou.
The Dane has since been sacked after a series of underwhelming results domestically. As for Kudus, he’s out with a thigh problem and isn’t likely to return until mid-April.
In the meantime, Tottenham are scouring the market for potential summer reinforcements. And if reports are to be believed, they could raid West Ham United for arguably their best player as they fight to avoid relegation.
Tottenham want ‘complete’ footballer Jarrod Bowen
West Ham are currently 18th in the Premier League standings with 25 points despite playing a game fewer than Nottingham Forest, who are 17th with 27 points to their name.
Despite their current predicament, Jarrod Bowen has once again been in fine form this season. He has featured in every Premier League game so far, notching up a creditable tally of eight goals and four assists for a side battling for relegation.
A report from TEAMtalk states that Tottenham are planning to capitalise on their ‘long-standing’ interest in Bowen with an offer at the end of the season.
They view the England international as a ‘complete’ footballer owing to his versatility and ability to score goals and assist with equal measure.
Bowen has featured on either flank and also as a centre forward for West Ham. That, coupled with his Premier League experience, makes him a tantalising option for Tottenham, who have really struggled in front of goal this season.
Interesting relegation paradox
Tottenham fans will hate to admit it, but the club could well get sucked into a relegation dog fight in the coming weeks as they are only four points above West Ham.
Igor Tudor’s primary focus will be to secure Tottenham’s Premier League status, with the rest of the hierarchy working behind the scenes to identify targets to bolster their ranks in the summer.
However, the interesting paradox here is that Tottenham are aiming to get Bowen on a cut-price fee if they get relegated, while their own status in the Premier League is far from assured.
The report also mentions interest from Manchester United, who could make a move for him if West Ham get relegated.
He is tied down at West Ham until the summer of 2030 and has a price tag of around £52m, which could reduce if they drop down to the Championship.
Tottenham were linked with Ademola Lookman in January, but the Nigerian secured a move to Atletico Madrid, who they prepare to face in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
Keisuke Goto has keen admirers at N17, with the young striker enjoying a breakthrough season in the Belgian top-flight.
Judging by what’s been said in the rumour mill, Spurs are well and truly on the lookout for more firepower, so the upcoming transfer window could well be exciting if the unthinkable doesn’t happen.
