Tottenham Hotspur are navigating a tough spell on and off the pitch as they continue to fight for Premier League safety.
On the pitch, their issues are well-documented as they remain just a point above the relegation zone.
Elsewhere, plans are underway to identify a new sporting director, who would then be responsible for hiring a new, permanent manager.
The club’s hierarchy, in the meantime, continue to scour the market for reinforcements, which has led them to keep a close eye on Juventus striker Jonathan David.
Tottenham ‘updated’ on Jonathan David’s situation
After joining the Serie A giants on a free last summer, David hasn’t set the world alight with his goalscoring exploits, getting his name on the scoresheet just five times in the league so far.
However, during his spell with Lille, he was regarded as one of the most prolific goal scorers in Europe as he notched up 109 goals for the French club.
Juventus’ transfers in recent years have been a mixed bag, at best. And David certainly falls in that category, due to which his future in Turin remains in doubt.
According to TEAMtalk, the Canadian striker is wanted by a host of Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Tottenham, Brighton, Everton, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest and Leeds.
The aforementioned sides are ‘updated’ on recent developments and are believed to have held talks with intermediaries aware of David’s situation. A lot of teams could be in for a striker in the summer, so David certainly won’t be short of suitors.
In the same report, sources close to David have confirmed that while he is fairly well settled in Turin, he wouldn’t be against a transfer if a suitable offer arrives.
The Canadian’s future, however, could be linked with that of Juventus teammate Dusan Vlahovic, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
If the Serie A giants manage to tie him down to a new, long-term contract, David’s chances of leaving would increase as he’d find game time hard to come by.
Tottenham’s striker shortlist
Dominic Solanke hasn’t been at his best this season, while Randal Kolo Muani will return to Paris Saint-Germain at the end of his loan spell.
Tottenham have been linked with Keisuke Goto, who is making massive strides in the Belgian top-flight.
However, he is a bit of a rough diamond who could take time to adapt to the rigour of English football if he makes the move.
Elsewhere, an experienced striker’s name has come up. Tottenham are keeping a close eye on Flaco Lopez, who has been a reliable striker in Brasileirao for nearly five years now.
Who they target in the transfer market could depend on whether or not they avoid relegation, so everything else will take a bit of a backseat until the end of the season.
