Tottenham Hotspur are faced with an important decision this summer regarding the future of Guglielmo Vicario.
The enigmatic goalkeeper has failed to convince completely despite being in his third season at the club, which is a sign that time is running out for him in North London.
Tottenham aren’t against selling Vicario in the summer, with Juventus and Inter Milan signaling their interest in recent weeks.
And now, multiple reports from England suggest the club are already on the lookout for a new goalkeeper, with a handful of names being considered.
Tottenham sound out Vicario replacements
The 29-year-old joined the club for a fee believed to be in the region of £17.2m after a string of magnificent displays between the sticks for Empoli.
However, since moving to England, Vicario’s ability to command the penalty area – particularly when it comes to set pieces – has emerged as a massive problem for the club.
TEAMtalk report that Tottenham have already decided to move on from the Italian in the summer, with Manchester City’s James Trafford, Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen, Sunderland’s Robin Roefs and Lens’ Robin Risser all part of their shortlist.
While Trafford hasn’t been a first-team regular since moving to Manchester City in the summer of 2025, the others are undisputed first-choice shot-stoppers for their respective clubs.
The report also states that Risser – who has made a massive impression in Ligue 1 this season – is leading the chase to replace Vicario as Tottenham have been impressed by his commanding displays despite being just 21.

Risser is also in contention to be named in Didier Deschamps’ squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which goes to show just how highly rated he is.
Fussball Europa, a German news outlet, have thrown another name into the mix in the form of Noah Atubolu, who currently plies his trade with high-flying Freiburg in the Bundesliga.
The German goalkeeper has already featured 103 times for his club despite being just 23 and could leave the club for around £23m this summer if he doesn’t extend his contract, with his current deal set to expire in 2027.
Could Antonin Kinsky get a chance?
Tottenham will undoubtedly sign a new goalkeeper if Vicario is sold. However, if they decide to turn to an in-house option, Antonin Kinsky could get his chance between the sticks.
The Czech goalkeeper joined the club last January and has featured just 12 times in all competitions, keeping four clean sheets and conceding 19 goals.
Kinsky made his debut in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool and made a string of top-class saves to spearhead his side to a 1-0 win.
Tottenham eventually lost the tie, but the 22-year-old’s display didn’t go unnoticed as he garnered praise from fans and pundits alike for his heroics. Kinsky is currently injured but is expected to return imminently.

If Vicario continues to underwhelm between the sticks, it remains to be seen if Igor Tudor is bold enough to draft the Czech shot-stopper into the starting XI.
The goalkeeping department is set to undergo a re-jig this summer, but one thing is for sure: Vicario is running out of time at the club and could well be moved on if the right offer comes along.
