Newcastle United are set to increase their bid for Andros Townsend, according to the London Evening Standard.
Newcastle had thought that a bid of £10.5 million would secure Townsend’s signature, however Daniel Levy is insistent on Newcastle paying around £14 million to sign the England international.
There has also been talk of a loan deal which Townsend would prefer, but as Read Tottenham reported last week, Daniel Levy is insistent on Townsend leaving on a permanent deal only.
Townsend hasn’t featured for the Tottenham first team since October 22nd against Anderlecht and has been playing for the U-21 team since the start of November, after his confrontation with fitness coach Nathan Gardiner during the warm down following the win against Aston Villa.
With his lack of first-team football a key issue if he wants to get back into England contention ahead of Euro 2016, Townsend is keen for any potential deal to go through in the January transfer window so he can showcase his ability ahead of the tournament in France this summer.
If Townsend does move on, it would free up funds for Mauricio Pochettino to add depth to his squad, with a back up striker being essential according to former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp.
Do you think it is the right decision to allow Townsend to leave?
