Fabian Hurzeler predicts whether Tottenham can avoid relegation after fighting Brighton display

Tottenham needed three points but secured just one as they played out a 2-2 draw against Brighton in the Premier League.

The North London side are still winless in the competition in 2026 and have just five games to avoid relegation.

They are set to remain in the drop zone for at least another week. In the meantime, they’ll have one eye on West Ham and Nottingham Forest’s name and will hope they don’t pull further away.

The possibility of dropping down to the Championship has been the talk of the town at N17. However, Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler feels they have enough quality to turn things around in the five games that remain.

Tottenham tipped to avoid relegation

Tottenham performed quite well in front of an electric home crowd and took the lead twice, only for the Seagulls to respond on each occasion.

It wasn’t a poor performance by any stretch of the imagination, but with time running out, De Zerbi’s side need to start putting wins on the board.

And Hurzeler feels there is enough quality in Tottenham’s squad – particularly in attack – to get results in the coming weeks.

“Yeah, definitely,” said the Brighton boss after the game when asked if Tottenham can avoid the drop (quotes via George Sessions on X).

“What they have is individual quality. I think they have unbelievable players in their squad.

“They have players in their front line that can make a difference, like today. They have enough quality in their squad to make it happen.”

Tottenham running out of time

If West Ham and Forest win, Tottenham will be four and five points behind them, respectively.

And while their performance against Brighton was surely encouraging, that will leave them with a mountain to climb to avoid the drop.

All they can do for now is to prepare for the game against Wolves next weekend, which is a must-win fixture if there ever was one.

In the meantime, it’s time to pray to the football gods to be kind and hope the likes of West Ham and Forest don’t pull further away.

The fact that Tottenham’s destiny may not be in their hands is a reality that will have dawned on everyone associated with the club, especially after yesterday’s game.
