Tottenham are gearing up for the summer transfer window despite their future in the Premier League being unclear at the moment.
Regardless of which league they are in, Tottenham’s squad could see a major upheaval. With no European football, the likes of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven could depart. Meanwhile, they could also look to sell the likes of Radu Dragusin and Richarlison.
One area that Spurs need a major change in, though, is the midfield, as they need more passing ability instead of carrying skills. And a player who could potentially make way this summer is Pape Matar Sarr.
Fenerbahce interested in signing Sarr
Tottenham have signed numerous midfielders in recent years who are all suited to playing as #8 instead of #6. They need to rectify this situation, especially under Roberto De Zerbi this summer.
Amidst this, Takvim has reported that Fenerbahce are interested in signing Sarr. The Turkish giants had previously made contact with Spurs regarding the Senegalese midfielder as well. However, they failed to sign him despite making multiple attempts.
Fenerbahce have now ‘restarted negotiations’ for the 23-year-old. It’s unclear whether they have made contact with Sarr’s representatives or Spurs, but they are said to be moving ‘more decisively’.

However, the Yellow Canaries will have to compete with their arch-rivals, Galatasaray, for Sarr’s signature. The two sides are already competing in the Turkish league, with Galatasaray sitting one point above Fenerbahce at the top with a game in hand.
Sarr’s contract with Tottenham is valid until 2030. They signed him for over £14 million from Metz in 2021, but sent him back on loan to the French side that season. He returned to Spurs in 2022 and has made 137 appearances for them, recording 11 goals and 10 assists.
Incidentally, as per Football Fancast, Yves Bissouma has also been linked with a potential move to Fenerbahce.
Tottenham have many other players to sell before Sarr
With so many carry-first box-to-box midfielders already in their squad, Tottenham chose to sign Conor Gallagher for £40 million in January.
This now sees the future of excellent players like Sarr at the club under speculation. Moreover, the Englishman has also failed to put in a single good performance at Spurs so far.
Sarr, on the other hand, has been an excellent contributor for the north London side, especially under Ange Postecoglou. He made 90 appearances under the Greek-Australian and also provided the assist for Brennan Johnson’s winning goal in the Europa League final.
Tottenham certainly need to rebuild their midfield, but not at the risk of losing good players. Gallagher, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Bissouma should arguably be out the door before Sarr.
Joao Palhinha is also expected to return to Bayern Munich at the end of his loan spell this summer, so Sarr’s departure isn’t set in stone.
