Tottenham have been building a squad in recent years with many wonderkids like Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, Mikey Moore, and Luka Vuskovic.
Many of these young players have impressed, either at Tottenham or on their loan spells. Spurs certainly need to make signings for their first team who are ready to make an impact from the get-go. However, they must continue to bring in young stars to secure a long-term squad.
Recently, the north London side have been linked with Ian Subiabre. The Argentine wonderkid has garnered plenty of interest across Europe, but Spurs are looking to ‘accelerate’ their interest.
Tottenham interested in Ian Subiabre
In their search for wonderkids, Tottenham have entered the race to sign Subiabre from River Plate, as per El Instransigente. This has “set off alarm bells” at the Argentine club, who will demand a big fee for the 19-year-old.
Subiabre comes from a football family and joined C.A.I’s academy at just 5. He then moved to River Plate’s academy on loan in 2022 before the move was made permanent the following year. He has scored three goals and provided three assists in 35 senior games.

As per El Instransigente, Arsenal and Chelsea are also interested in signing the wonderkid. Subiabre’s contract, which expires in 2028, has a release clause worth £87 million.
However, journalist Hernán Castillo reported in January that the attacker could be available for a much lower price. He said:
“If they come in with a decent offer, say €10 or €15m for a percentage of his transfer rights, Subiabre will be sold immediately. Right now, there are zero offers, but when one comes in, he’s gone.”
Subiabre, notably, holds both Chilean and Argentine passports. He made one appearance for Chile’s U17 side before moving to Argentina’s youth sides.
Tottenham will struggle to sign Subiabre
Spurs have had a horrible 2025-26 campaign as they sit in the relegation zone. They have no European football next season, and they might not even be in the Premier League. Hence, attracting top talent would also become tough for them.
Moreover, Chelsea have been a hub for signing young wonderkids from South America in recent years, like Estevao Willian and Andrey Santos. Meanwhile, Arsenal have been challenging for the Premier League title and have also given minutes to the likes of Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman.
Regardless, Spurs are looking to begin negotiations with Subiabre’s agent, Claudio Caniggia. Both the player and the Argentine club are reportedly willing to part ways this summer if a decent offer arrives.
