Guglielmo Vicario takes major step towards leaving Tottenham in the summer

Tottenham are staring at the possibility of relegation from the Premier League. This could lead to many of their players leaving, but some might leave even if they stay up.

Many Tottenham players have received a lot of criticism this season, as they sit one point above the relegation zone. The ones who won Spurs their first major trophy in 17 years are now on the verge of seeing their legacy at the club being ruined.

One such player is Guglielmo Vicario. The Italian shotstopper, who has produced some tremendous performances since his arrival, has faced a lot of flak this season. He has also been linked with a summer exit.

Vicario ‘approves’ Inter Milan move

Spurs signed Vicario from Empoli in 2023 after they failed to sign David Raya from Brentford. The Italian shotstopper can now return to his home country this summer.

As per Italian outlet L’Interista, Inter Milan are keen on signing the Tottenham man as a replacement for Yann Sommer. The latter’s contract will expire this summer, and he is expected to leave as a free agent.

The outlet also claims that Vicario has already approved a move to Inter Milan, as he is keen to return to his home country. The Nerazzuri have made him a four-year contract offer with a salary of €3.2 million net per year. The report adds:

“Inter will simply need to reach an agreement with Tottenham, a price expected to range between €20 million and less, depending on whether they are relegated.”

Spurs signed Vicario from Empoli for €20 million, and with his contract expiring in 2028, they will look to recover their investment. The Italian goalkeeper, meanwhile, is currently recovering from a hernia surgery, with the timeline for his return unclear.

Vicario deserves more praise at Tottenham

Vicario has faced the wrath of Tottenham fans this season for his multiple costly mistakes.

Moreover, Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor’s playing style, which demands going long more often than not, has further led to his detriment. He was also reportedly dealing with a hernia for a long time before he eventually underwent surgery two weeks ago.

However, the Italian has produced some incredible performances in three years at Spurs, including this season. He was also dependable with his feet under Ange Postecoglou, whose football demanded that he make short passes and provided more options.

Moreover, he has shown immense commitment and love for the club, and so have his parents. While a move is arguably right for both parties at this point, Vicario deserves much more plaudits than criticism at Tottenham.
