Spurs 4-1 Everton U21s

Ugo Ehiogu’s side began their Barclays U21 Premier League season with a victory against Everton at Monday lunchtime.

Alex Pritchard scored twice in his first match since suffering an ankle injury during the U21 European Championships, whilst Hugo Lloris played the full match.

Further efforts from Nathan Oduwa and Shaquille Coulthirst sealed an emphatic win for the hosts, ensuring Sam Byrne’s goal would be nothing but a consolation.

Pritchard’s first-effort came on 19 minutes, a curling free-kick from 20-yards out, before the same played doubled Spurs’ lead seven minutes later after a neat back heel by Coulthirst.

Byrne’s effort two minutes before the break looked to ensure that The Toffees would go in at half-time just one goal behind, but Spurs’ hit-back instantly through Oduwa to restore the two-goal cushion.

It took till four minutes from time for the result to finally be put beyond any doubt, Coulthirst lashing the ball inside the near post to seal the three points for Ehiogu’s side, and the boss had nothing but positive things to say about the display afterwards.

“It’s good to see hard work, intent and application applied to talent and that always gives you a chance to win any football match,” said Ugo.

“The first-team management were all here and that adds a little pressure as well, the players have to deal with that and they handled it well.

“Alex Pritchard was excellent and Hugo brings a calmness and reassurance when he plays, it’s wonderful when the lads can play in front of him.”

The youngsters continue their season next Friday with a trip to Manchester City.
