Tottenham are sweating over the fitness of Jan Paul van Hecke after he picked up an injury during the Netherlands’ 2-1 win against Serbia.
The central defender has been omitted from the squad for the rest of the international break and will look to work his way back up to full fitness in North London.
Tottenham will look to get Van Hecke back on track at the earliest as he is an indispensable asset for Roberto De Zerbi.
And now, Netherlands manager Xavi has provided an injury update on the former Brighton man.
Van Hecke injury worry for Tottenham
“During the match against Serbia, someone stepped on him,” said Xavi via Sport Witness.
“He didn’t realise it [someone stepping on his toe] during the match, but afterwards it was impossible for him to play.
“He really wanted to try, but he was in a lot of pain. That is why we decided to take him off the list.
“He tried to participate in recovery training yesterday (Tuesday). He tried again today, but he couldn’t touch the ball.”
The good news is that it looks like an impact injury, so even if Van Hecke spends some time on the sidelines, it won’t be for too long.
Tottenham have over a week before they play again in the Premier League, so their fans will be waiting anxiously to see if Van Hecke will be fit enough to face Manchester United next Sunday.
