Tottenham Hotspur’s search for an attacker appeared to take a positive twist yesterday after weeks of being at a standstill.
Various reports confirmed that Folarin Balogun is a target for the Lilywhites, with the striker delivering the goods for club and country in recent seasons.
In fact, Loic Tanzi of L’Equipe claimed Tottenham have ‘made their move’ for Balogun, who is valued at around €60m.
But now, Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water over claims that any deal for the USA international is imminent.
Nothing advanced between Tottenham and Balogun
Balogun has been a reliable goalscorer for Monaco since joining the club in 2023 from Arsenal.
And while Romano confirmed that clubs are interested in signing him, he added that there is nothing concrete behind rumours linking him with Tottenham.
He wrote on X: “Several clubs have called over recent days for Folarin Balogun, including Galatasaray and Saudi clubs, informed on deal conditions from AS Monaco.
“Nothing concrete or advanced with Tottenham at this stage.”
In our opinion, Loic Tanzi is a reliable name within footballing circles, so yesterday’s update on Balogun seemed like big news.
Now, however, Romano suggests there is no interest, so it remains to be seen what happens in the next few days.
