‘Opportunity’ – Fabrizio Romano confirms fresh twist in Tottenham defender’s future

At this point, we’re just so tired of the topsy-turvy nature of Cristian Romero’s Tottenham transfer saga.

One thing we know for sure is that he has already played his last game for the club and will leave before the summer transfer window slams shut.

Romero had a verbal agreement to join Inter Milan, who stepped up their pursuit after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

However, earlier this week, Atletico Madrid made a move to sign Romero from Tottenham, which came as a massive blow for the Serie A giants.

And now, Fabrizio Romano claims that Barcelona could re-enter the race as they would have a vacant spot after Ronald Araujo’s loan move to Liverpool.

Barcelona still want Tottenham captain Cristian Romero

The Catalan giants’ interest in Romero is well documented, and with Araujo leaving, it remains to be seen if they make a move.

Romano says Barcelona’s situation is now different from what was the case a day ago, although Atletico Madrid are preparing a new offer.

“One of the defenders who has always been under consideration by FC Barcelona is Cuti Romero,” said Romano on his YouTube channel.

“However, he was never considered a priority because Barça already had many centre-backs. Now, different situation with Araujo leaving.

“If Barcelona decide to enter the race for Cuti Romero, now they have the opportunity and room to do so. So we have to see whether they decide to sign a defender.

“Atlético Madrid are preparing a new offer to Tottenham, but they still have NO agreement with Cuti Romero and his agents.”

We have no idea where he’ll go, but can one of these three teams sign Romero ASAP and be done with this transfer saga once and for all?
