Tottenham Hotspur have had some notable sales this summer, but Cristian Romero is set to be their biggest one yet.
The Argentine defender has been embroiled in a transfer saga with Inter Milan and was set to sign for them as of this morning.
We covered on Read Tottenham that Romero has agreed a deal with Inter, with the transfer yet to be signed off because the Serie A giants wanted to sell Benjamin Pavard first.
Now, however, Atletico Madrid are prepared to go all out to secure his signature and are preparing their first offer.
Atletico Madrid all in for Cristian Romero
According to Matteo Moretto of Marca, Diego Simeone’s side are willing to go all out to sign the Tottenham captain ahead of Inter Milan and are preparing a bid worth €30m.
That fee, however, won’t be enough, as the fee Tottenham agreed with Inter Milan is around €40m.
We reported earlier in the summer that Atletico Madrid were in for Romero, but since then, we haven’t heard too much about it as other teams like Barcelona and Inter positioned themselves for his signature.
Marca also confirm that the Argentine’s preferred destination is Atletico, which is a big blow for Inter as they had all but agreed a deal until this morning.
As for Tottenham, they just need this saga to finish one way or another. Whether it is Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan or someone else, Romero will not be playing for Roberto De Zerbi’s side next season.
