Tottenham agree £32m transfer but deal hinges on one condition

Cristian Romero warms up in Tottenham Hotspur kit

Tottenham Hotspur have already offloaded a few players, but they are edging closer to their biggest sale this summer.

Cristian Romero has been locked in talks to sign for Inter Milan since the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He didn’t travel with the Tottenham squad for pre-season and has already played his last game for the club.

And now, reports from Italy confirm that the deal is all but agreed, with the Serie A giants waiting to confirm one key departure before confirming Romero’s arrival.

Inter want to sell Benjamin Pavard before signing Cristian Romero

Last month, Roberto De Zerbi publicly confirmed that Romero has asked to leave Tottenham, although the fans have known this for a while now.

His last appearance for the club was in the defeat against Sunderland, where he picked up an MCL injury and missed the rest of the season.

Corriere dello Sport, via their print edition, have confirmed that a transfer fee worth £25.7m + £4.2m in bonuses has been agreed between Inter and Tottenham, with the Argentine set to earn a salary of around €6m per season.

However, after also signing John Stones, Inter’s only condition is that they need to sell Benjamin Pavard to sign off on the Romero deal, which is likely to happen this month.

All in all, Romero’s Tottenham departure has never been closer. Let’s hope the situation is resolved ASAP so that the Lilywhites can start the season without any distractions, and more than anything, with a new club captain.
