Tottenham Hotspur have been completely focused on transfers this summer and for good reason.
They finished 16th and 17th over the last two Premier League seasons, which is downright embarrassing for a club of their stature.
To add to that, key players left, managers kept changing and they lacked a sense of direction, which has changed since Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival.
The Italian has signed as many as six senior players to bolster his ranks.
But Micky van de Ven’s decision to stay could be his biggest boost yet.
Micky van de Ven to stay at Tottenham
Yesterday, we relayed claims on Read Tottenham that Van de Ven would extend his deal, putting an end to all the speculation surrounding his future.
And now, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Dutchman has a verbal agreement to sign a new contract, adding that Tottenham never considered the prospect of selling him this summer.
“Breaking: Tottenham reach verbal agreement on new deal with Micky van de Ven!
“Same process as Pedro Porro: key players for De Zerbi and the club, never been for sale this summer. New long-term contract with salary rise agreed at #THFC.”
The contract length has yet to be confirmed, but Van de Ven will extend his stay at the club on improved terms, which is the best news possible for Tottenham fans across the world.
And once Cristian Romero’s departure is confirmed, he could well take the captain’s armband from the Argentine.
