Tottenham transfer news as £42m Cristian Romero replacement wants Premier League move

Cristian Romero in Tottenham Hotspur colours, closing in on a move to Atletico Madrid

Tottenham Hotspur have already signed Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi, but it remains to be seen if they add to their rearguard.

Cristian Romero is close to a move to Inter Milan and if the transfer materialises, a spot could open up at the back.

And despite selling Luka Vuskovic, the Lilywhites also have Kevin Danso and Micky van de Ven, while Ben Davies and Andy Robertson could also fill in as central defenders.

If reports from England are to be believed, however, Giorgio Scalvini is open to a Premier League move amid interest from Tottenham and Chelsea.

Tottenham target Scalvini open to Premier League move

Erkem Konur reports that the Atalanta defender has a price tag of 42m and is open to a Premier League move this summer.

Newcastle United are willing to test the water with a bid, but the Magpies’ offer is expected to be around £34m.

Earlier this year, we reported on Read Tottenham that Scalvini has keen admirers at N17.

And now, with Romero set to leave, it remains to be seen if Roberto De Zerbi makes a move for his compatriot.

He will look to leverage his Serie A connections to thrash out a deal for Scalvini, who has developed admirably at Atalanta in recent years.

However, we believe signing a central defender won’t be a priority for Tottenham unless an unmissable opportunity arises, as they have other priorities between now and the end of the summer transfer window.
