Roberto De Zerbi has been speaking to the media after Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-1 win against Chelsea, and one of the topics of discussion was Cristian Romero.
The Argentine hasn’t featured for the club in pre-season and has been heavily linked with a departure.
Earlier today, we wrote on Read Tottenham that Romero is close to joining Inter Milan, with a verbal agreement in place between both clubs.
And now, Roberto De Zerbi has made an interesting claim on the defender’s future.
Cristian Romero set to return to Tottenham training
Romero is still likely to leave Tottenham, but the Italian admitted he has been texting him about finalising his return date to training.
“I texted with Cuti yesterday to make a plan for when he comes back to London,” said De Zerbi in his post-match press conference (via Football London).
“Not for the transfer market. That’s not my job. I know there are many solutions in the transfer market.”
De Zerbi’s comments effectively confirm that Romero’s departure has yet to be finalised.
If a deal was agreed behind the scenes, Tottenham wouldn’t bother getting him back to train with the squad as there simply wouldn’t be any point in doing so.
The Argentine is still expected to move on, but we may have to wait for a bit for the deal to be agreed.
