  • Chelsea 1-0 up against Tottenham

  • Spurs need at least a point for safety

Chelsea are currently 1-0 up against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge in what has been a tightly fought Premier League contest.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side started on the front foot and showed a lot of energy. However, the Blues grew into the game after the first 15 minutes and went ahead through an Enzo Fernandez stunner.

Tottenham need at least a point to effectively confirm mathematical safety from relegation.

As things stand, though, they could still get relegated. And the Chelsea fans were quick to remind them of the situation as they poked fun at their London rivals.

Tottenham’s relegation misery laid bare

It could be argued that Antonin Kinsky could have done a lot better to prevent Fernandez’s goal, although the ball curved quite a bit before landing in the back of the net.

And after their goal, Chelsea continued to grow into the game and threatened to go two goals clear.

The Blues haven’t had much to cheer about this season, but produced a fighting display under Calum McFarlane.

And after going ahead, every Tottenham mistake was met with ‘this is why you’re going down’ chants, which rubbed salt into the wounds of the visitors.

Nizaar Kinsella, BBC’s Chelsea presenter, wrote: “Chelsea fans are enjoying chanting ‘that’s why you’re going down’ every time a Tottenham player makes a mistake.”

Crucial 45 minutes ahead for Tottenham

De Zerbi’s side are unbeaten in their last four Premier League games and have largely fared quite well in recent weeks.

However, they fell flat at Stamford Bridge after a strong start, which is a worrying sign for the Italian.

Tottenham don’t have too many game-changing options on the bench, but James Maddison could be the man to turn things around for the club.

The Englishman made his first appearance of the season last week against Leeds United and almost won his side a penalty.

He could prove to be the creative spark in the second half, but with Maddison still not fully fit, it remains to be seen if he features.

West Ham United, on the other hand, will be watching on keenly and will look to capitalise next week if Tottenham don’t get anything from this game.
