Much like Tottenham, it’s been a season of change at Manchester United over the course of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.

The Red Devils are close to appointing Michael Carrick on a permanent deal after he steadied the ship following Ruben Amorim’s sacking.

And now, according to The Athletic, the Englishman is looking to poach a key member of Roberto De Zerbi’s coaching staff for the forthcoming season.

Manchester United want Andreas Georgson

Recently, Enrico Venturelli’s Tottenham arrival completed De Zerbi’s coaching staff at the club as the Italian joined as a translator.

Marcattilio Marcattili and Marcello Quinto joined the club along with the former Brighton boss, while the likes of Bruno Salter, Andreas Georgson, Fabian Otte, Cameron Campbell, Dean Brill and Stuart Lewis remained at the club.

And now, the reliable Laurie Whitwell has confirmed that Manchester United want Georgson, who initially joined along with Thomas Frank as the assistant coach.

The Swede has been with the club since the start of the season. While he serves as a first-team coach, he is an expert when it comes to set-pieces and has significantly improved Spurs in this aspect at both ends of the pitch.

When De Zerbi arrived, he opted to keep Georgson at the club, proving that he is held in high regard by the Italian.

Who could replace Georgson at Tottenham?

Georgson was at Manchester United for the 2024-25 campaign, initially under Erik ten Hag and later under Amorim.

He is clearly highly rated at Tottenham, so his departure would be a big blow for the club.

If he were to leave, though, De Zerbi could turn to one of his former allies: Davide Possanzini.

When the Italian initially arrived, Football London speculated that Possanzini could join him at the club.

“Davide Possanzini was his compatriot’s assistant head coach as Shakhtar, Sassuolo and Palermo as well as one of his technical coaches at Foggia,” wrote Alasdair Gold in his column.

“However, he went off to begin his own managerial career and was in charge of Serie B side Mantova for a couple of years before leaving in December last year.

“He is currently without a club and is represented by CAA Base, the agency that is very strongly connected within Spurs.”

The last point, in particular, could be important. He’s strongly connected to the club through his agency and also knows De Zerbi quite well, so maybe he’s the one Tottenham turn to if Georgson decides to return to Manchester United.
